My main research interests are in hydrology, with a focus on hydrometric data, analysis and interpretation. I joined CEH in 2016 as a Hydrologist working in the UK National River Flow Archive.
I work within the Hydrological Status and Reporting Group at Wallingford and provide analytical and data management support to a variety of projects, including NRFA, NHMP, and Hydrological Outlooks. Within the National River Flow Archive, my role as Outreach Programme Coordinator involves improving the visibility of the NRFA, utilising tools including the website, helpdesk, social media, e-newsletters and physical and digital publications. The aim is to improve the visibility and usage of the archive across a wide range of sectors.
I am also involved in improvements to the data acquisition process of the NRFA and support improvements to all data types held on the archive, and particularly the peak flows dataset working with the Data Quality Coordinator. Further to this, I am the Northern Ireland Regional Representative for the NRFA which involves assisting with the take on and quality control of daily and peak flow river flow data from the River Agency. I also liaise with the measuring authority to improve existing data and metadata records to improve NRFA data holdings, and this included a three-day visit to the Rivers Agency in Cookstown in March 2017.
For the National Hydrological Monitoring Programme, I make contributions to the Hydrological Summary and occasional reporting of extreme events for an audience that encompasses the government, media and academia. I also provide production and administrative support to the Hydrological Outlooks project - a monthly report which provides an insight into future hydrological conditions across the UK.
