Environmental Informatics and data science development, web data services and software development for supporting environmental science programmes 

Brief CV

John has led UKCEH’s development of environmental informatics for the last decade including establishment of the Environmental Information Data Centre for the UK NERC terrestrial and freshwater sciences, a range of web data services including data visualisation and delivery portals, data publication and citation services and a portfolio of environmental data science research and development projects including UKRI, UK Government and EU projects. He has worked at international level within forma such as the Research Data Alliance, the Belmont Forum, and development of EU ESFRI Research Infrastructures

John currently manages staff and projects in the UKCEH EI portfolio to deliver environmental informatics research and development and the operation of the Terrestrial and Freshwater Science Data Centre (EIDC). He also works with international groups (RDA, Belmont) and projects (LTER Europe) to develop trans-national environmental informatics infrastructures and services. He is also works within UKCEH strategic partnerships for environmental data science such as with the University of Lancaster Data Science Institute and the Centre of Excellence in Environmental Data Science (CEEDS).
