Hong’s main research interests are in the field of environmental microbiology and environmental chemistry, including:
Dietary and environmental nitrates and human/animal interactions
Microbial ecology of contaminated soil and bioremediation
Plant and microbe interactions
Chemical pollutions in the environment and management and regulations
Green bioprocesses electrokinetic.
Professor Hong Li is the Head of Strategic Partnerships - China.
Hong obtained his PhD degree in microbiology from Aberdeen University in 2000. Following postdoctoral researcher posts at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (now Manchester University) and Oxford University, he joined NERC's Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH-Oxford) in 2003 and was relocated to CEH-Lancaster in 2008.
From 2009 to 2012, Hong was on secondment to Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) at Lancaster University as a Senior Innovation Fellow working on the UK-China Science Bridge Project. His role was to do research and develop and manage multi stakeholders’ partnerships for water related innovation, which involves high profile researches, conferences/workshops on water policy, chemical management policy and technological innovation with Chinese government department, research institution and Chinese and international companies. He contributed and participated in the management UK government funded Lancaster-China Catalyst programme. Before came to the UK he was associate professor at Yunnan Normal University. He is Honorary Professor at Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Hong has led several UK-China Strategic Partnerships projects.
