Brief CV

I oversee the quality system for CEH's UKAS Accredited centralised chemistry facility (UKAS lab number 2506) and have done so since implementing the system and gaining UKAS accreditation in 2005. The laboratory activities include Inorganic and Organic environmental chemistry and Stable Isotopes.  I also act as an internal auditor within the CEH Qualiy Management System for ISO9001.

I have configured a new Laboratory Information Management System (an Oracle database) in conjunction with the LIMS software vendors. This system went live in our inorganic chemistry laboratories in July 2012.  I am still LIMS administrator and extending LIMS into other parts of the chemistry facility.

I have also been acting  Technical Manager for the nutrients and stable isotope laboratories.

I still do analytical work and have a wide range of experience in many analytical techniques using an array of different instruments. I spent many years working with Stable Isotopes and have experience of analysing both bulk materials and gases in addition to troubleshooting Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometers and even inventing and building preparation equipment. I also developed and validated isotope methods to ISO17025. Since 2007 I have also used, developed and validated several methods to ISO17025 in Inorganic chemistry (Metals & Nutrients). I am now working with the Organic chemistry team to add their methods to our UKAS schedule and as a result am using HPLC and LCMSMS in this laboratory as part of the analytical component of my work, which is primarily pesticide analysis.

I have a BSc Hons in Natural Sciences (Biology).
