Professional summary
Alexander is a Molecular Ecology Research Assistant at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH). His research currently focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in environmental settings, with particular emphasis on the impact of wastewater pollution on river ecosystems.
He is currently supporting the delivery of the UK Water industry Research (UKWIR) Chemicals investigation Programme 4 (CIP4) AMR project. Before UKCEH, he contributed to a range of microbiology projects, including work on biosafety and pathogen transmission within hospital environments during his time at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). His academic research includes projects investigating antimicrobial resistance in the built environment including the impact of food waste on biofilm formation, and the selection of resistant Acinetobacter baylyi and Escherichia coli strains under sub-inhibitory concentrations of antibiotics found in soil.
Alexander holds a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Surrey and an MSc in Medical Immunoscience and Infection from the University of Bonn, Germany.
