The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology is an independent not-for-profit research institute, carrying out excellent environmental science with impact. Our 600-strong team strives to understand the environment, how it sustains life, and the human impact on it, working together for a world where people and nature thrive.

We are looking for three exceptional individuals to join our board of trustees and help turn our vision into reality! We need a new Chair with outstanding leadership experience, as well as trustees with strong backgrounds in science and finance. If you’re passionate about the environment and want to make a real impact, this could be the opportunity for you!

Chair of trustees

As Chair of our Trustees, you will play a key role in steering our growth and championing our environmental, social and economic impact. We are looking for someone with leadership experience and a solid grasp of environmental policy or science. You will be joining us at an exciting juncture as we refresh our strategy! We would particularly like to hear from candidates who will bring fresh perspectives and ideas.
This appointment follows the announcement in December 2023 that our current chair, Lord Cameron of Dillington, will be retiring in 2025.

We also have opportunities for outstanding individuals with strong backgrounds in science and finance.

Science trustee

You will collaborate closely with our Science Director to ensure our science stays at the forefront globally. We are looking for someone with a track record of making significant contributions to the scientific community, particularly within environmental science. Your insights will be instrumental in driving scientific excellence, ensuring our research remains at the forefront of ecological and hydrological innovation.

Finance trustee

As Finance Trustee, working hand-in-hand with our Finance Director, you will bring your financial expertise to our strategic decision-making and help to ensure the financial sustainability of the organisation. You will lead the Finance and Audit Sub-Committee of the Board and ensure we have a robust accounting, reporting and control environment. We are seeking someone with a strong background in finance to shape our financial future.
