Equality is about treating all individuals or groups of individuals fairly.
Equity means acknowledging that we do not all start from the same place, and adjustments need to be made to eliminate imbalances.
Diversity is about recognising, respecting, and celebrating each other’s differences.
Inclusion means creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.
"At UKCEH I, as well as my leadership team, are fully committed to creating a thriving environment at UKCEH. This means not just talking about EEDI but making impactful changes to the way we do things. EEDI is for everyone, and everyone has the responsibility to contribute to our vision of equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion."
Dr Stuart Wainwright OBE, UKCEH chief executive
Our EEDI strategy
Our EEDI champions are driving our progress towards a safe, inclusive environment, creating the right space and opportunities for all our people. Our strategy focuses on four key areas:
- Fair and equitable access to opportunities means enhancing what we do before people join UKCEH and throughout their employment with us.
- Respecting and valuing everyone in the workplace means creating a culture where each individual feels valued and comfortable being themselves.
- Enabling inclusion and inclusive action means encouraging behaviours that lead to a more inclusive environment and taking appropriate action when this does not happen.
- Governance, leadership and accountability means identifying individuals who are responsible and accountable for championing EEDI across UKCEH.
