We have a long history of investigating, monitoring and modelling environmental change, generating evidence-driven solutions to complex environmental challenges. Watch our video to find out more about how our science is having a positive impact.
About the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)
The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology is a world-leading independent research institute, carrying out excellent environmental science with impact.

UKCEH science in action with Deborah Meaden
Deborah Meaden joined us on Millmoot Farm on the Somerset Levels to learn about UKCEH’s work with landowners on sustainable farming, biodiversity monitoring, and peatland conservation to support food security and reduce emissions.

Rice takes root in British soil for the first time
Rice is being grown in the UK for the first time. This is part of a project with UKCEH and farmers to trial rice and other food, bioenergy and wildlife friendly crops in the rewetted peatland soils in the Cambridgeshire Fens.

New app uses lichens to reveal nitrogen pollution levels across UK
LicheN is a new app enabling people to contribute to monitoring air quality using lichens as natural indicators. Information gathered will help improve understanding of nitrogen pollution and its effects on ecosystems.
Our ambition
Our ambition is to make the world a better place through science addressing climate change, promoting biodiversity, and creating sustainable ecosystems.
