Professional summary

Megan works as a Quantitative Ecologist in Biological Invasions within the Population Ecology group at the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. Her main area of interest is investigating the dynamics of non-native species and their effects on local biodiversity and ecosystems and how this research can be used to help inform policy and decision-making. Her role primarily focuses on the data compilation and analysis of trends in non-native species in Great Britain and the UK Overseas Territories.

The projects she is currently involved in are: Global Non-native Species Information Portal: assisting the provision of the 'ALERT' system for Asian Hornets across Britain to prevent its invasion and subsequent detrimental effect on Great Britain's biodiversity and ecosystems; UK Overseas Territories: develop an information portal for each UK Overseas Territory on the non-native species that are present and the provision of resources that can help to increase public awareness of the detrimental effects that some of these species can have on the native biodiversity and ecosystems; Indonesia Restoration: assembling a comprehensive list of plant species in Indonesia, serving as an input for the ongoing development of an application designed for stakeholders; Invasive Species Diego Garcia: data processing and creation of heat maps to visualise the distribution of invasive species across Diego Garcia, and; EU Risk Assessments: produce and run Species Distribution Models on priority invasive non-native species.
