We have a long history of investigating, monitoring and modelling environmental change, generating evidence-driven solutions to complex environmental challenges. Watch our video to find out more about how our science is having a positive impact.
About the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH)
The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology is a world-leading independent research institute, carrying out excellent environmental science with impact.
Worrying warming trend at Windermere in past 80 years
Long-term monitoring data collected by UKCEH show that surface temperatures in Windermere, the largest lake in England, have warmed by 1.5°C in the last 80 years. TV presenter Helen Skelton joined scientists to take part in a day of fieldwork.
We must take care of spiders and other unsung heroes
‘Creepy crawlies’ are quietly helping keep gardens healthy but are under-appreciated and under-recorded say scientists. As the RHS Chelsea Flower Show gets under way, UKCEH is asking the public to take an interest in spiders, earwigs, woodlice and grasshoppers.
Tackling nutrient pollution in Maldives to clean up ocean
A project is targeting nutrient pollution in the Maldives to clean up the ocean and protect biodiversity. The Maldives National University and UKCEH lead the work, which will include monitoring pollution and promoting recycling of nutrients to produce fertiliser.
