Professional summary
Dr Cristiane Forgiarini is a botanist focused on ecology of vascular plants and conservation genetics. Throughout her academic career, she has been studying endangered species and how ecological traits can affect species survival in the long-term. Her main contributions are in ecological models for Tropical Forests, re-evaluation of IUCN status of endangered species, studies about genetic diversity of natural and ex situ populations, pollination, floral mating system, seed banks, conservation cultures (i.e.: Botanic gardens) and plant reintroduction. She also has been studying species distribution and biological records data to understand the aspects that are correlated to species occurrence.
Currently, at UKCEH, she is part of the Biological Records Centre (BRC) team. She has been supporting iRecord, the UK National Plant Monitoring Scheme (NPMS), the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI), the UK National Honey Monitoring Scheme (NHMS) and is part of the team developing the UK conservation translocation database. She has been enjoying exploring the beautiful British flora and understanding the taxonomic differences between genera/species of the UK in comparison with other floras/florae around the world.
