Carolin obtained her DPhil from Oxford University, UK in 2015 on the topic of silver nanoparticle ecotoxicology in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, as part of the Marie Curie ITN NanoTOES. Her BSc/MSc studies were in the field of Geoecology with a focus on ecotoxicology at the University of Tübingen, Germany.
Carolin is an ecotoxicologist with specialism in the hazard and risk assessment of pollutants in the terrestrial environment and the effect of changing exposure conditions on uptake and toxicity. Her experience in experimental ecotoxicology ranges from the investigation of mechanisms underlying the toxicity of substances to nematodes to the design and running of a large scale terrestrial mesocosm experiments including multiple species. Her current work includes investigating the fate and transport of contaminants from biosolids in mesocosms. Carolin has conducted several systematic evidence reviews on risk assessment frameworks for nanoforms, biological effects of aquatic mixture and chemical concentrations and frequencies in biosolids.
Carolin also works on the UK Centre for Multimodal Correlative Microscopy and Spectroscopy (CoreMiS) platform, a RISE-EDS and Fluorescence Light Microscopy (RISE-EDS-LM) system dedicated to the analysis of environmental samples.
