Professional summary

Dr. Ahmad is a research associate at the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology within the Water and Climate science area. During her MS and PhD at the University of Maryland, she worked on several NASA projects that aimed to improve spatiotemporal modelling of seasonal snow, soil moisture, and runoff via data assimilation in High Mountain Asia. As part of her Climate and Cryosphere Fellowship (awarded by the World Climate Research Program), she worked on estimating the amount of snow present in small catchments across the Hindukush and Karakorum mountains in Pakistan via field work and snow modeling. Her study quantified the changes in seasonal snowpacks over the last 40 decades in northern Pakistan. Dr. Ahmad has also worked with the World Bank to study the resilience of rural infrastructure in a changing climate across Bangladesh. Currently, she works on developing AI-powered nowcasting frameworks for convective storm prediction across west and southern Africa. Her collaborations with regional organizations in High Mountain Asia and West Africa revolve around improving hazard preparedness in developing countries.
