Bethan uses satellite Earth Observation data to research interactions between the land surface and the atmosphere. She has a particular interest in processes occurring on subseasonal-to-seasonal timescales (S2S: 2 weeks to 2 months) and in how the land surface can provide additional predictability for S2S forecasts. She also focuses on designing new methods for evaluating Earth System Models using observations. She is a member of the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO).

Bethan recently completed a European Space Agency Climate Change Initiative (ESA CCI) research fellowship, investigating land-atmosphere interactions during flash droughts. She now leads the Climate Research Group for ESA CCI Soil Moisture, evaluating the suitability of new satellite soil moisture datasets for applications in climate science.
