“We are extremely saddened by the tragic news of the passing of Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who died in a helicopter crash in Ghana yesterday, alongside Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and six other people.

UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) was honoured to have engaged with Minister Muhammed. He was very supportive of our West Africa office in Accra, Ghana, which opened last year, and as recently as March, the Minister championed our UKCEH and UNESCO Sankore initiative, to deepen the collaboration between the UK, Nigeria and Ghana.

We extend our deepest condolences to Minister Muhammad’s family and to all of those families, colleagues and friends impacted by yesterday’s tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the people of Ghana and the government during this time of mourning.”

Dr Stuart Wainwright OBE, CEO, UKCEH
