Analysis of environmental samples- water, soil, headspace gases. Instruments used regularly: Metrohm, SEAL, GC, Thermalox. Also soils LOI, particle size extract, WDPT, hygroscopic water uptake. Organising International Year of Soils community event with Treborth Botanic Garden.

Experimental design. Collaboration on soil rainfall responses with UWA. Environmental microbiology- maintaining difficult-to-culture strains plus culture independent techniques. Molecular biology- DNA extract, PCR, DGGE, cloning functional/identity genes, sequence search. Demonstrating undergraduate lab courses.
