Professional summary

Dr Elma Lahive received her PhD in the field of ecotoxicology from the University College Cork, Ireland in 2011. She joined the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in the same year and is now currently a senior ecotoxicologist in the Ecotoxicology and Chemical Risk group. Her research focusses primarily on interactions between organisms and emerging contaminants in terrestrial ecosystems, particularly the study of particulates (engineered nanomaterials and solid polymers), gaining understanding of fate, bioavailability and mechanisms of toxicity.

She has worked on national and EU-funded projects investigating the effects of metals, pesticides, nanomaterials and microplastics on terrestrial environments at both lab and mesocosm scales, exploring how their fate and transformations affect their ultimate availability and toxicity to plants and soil invertebrates.
