The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology is pleased to announce that Professor David Fowler CBE FRS, has been awarded the highest level of Individual Merit Promotion (IMP1) given to scientists working for the Natural Environment Research Council.

The purpose of the Individual Merit Promotion scheme is to give recognition to scientific researchers who have made, and who will continue to make, an outstanding personal contribution in their field.

Prof Fowler, who is based at our Edinburgh site, is a world authority on air pollution issues, who has research interests in land-atmosphere exchange of trace gases and aerosols, ground level ozone, and long range transport deposition and effects of pollutants in Europe

His research is published in 200 peer reviewed papers and a similar number of other papers and book chapters. He became a special Professor of Environmental Science at Nottingham University in 1991 and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1999, a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 2002, and awarded a CBE in 2005 for services to atmospheric sciences.
