Professional summary

Anne Jo is a freshwater ecologist and part of the Freshwater Restoration and Sustainability group in Edinburgh, UK. She specialises in phytoplankton identification and biomass assessment and is interested in ecological effects, especially harmful algal blooms. Anne Jo has a recent EQAT certification in phytoplankton taxonomy and biomass assessment.

Anne Jo takes a keen interested in citizen science and public engagement and has managed a citizen science project called Bloomin'Algae — a project and smartphone app for rapid warning and management of harmful algal blooms. 

Her current and recent projects include: UKSCAPE Leven — Monitoring restoration impacts and environmental conditions at Loch Leven, Scotland; UKSCAPE Integration Project — Developing a blueprint for a water quality digital Twin; NERC SUNRISE - enhancing freshwaters in India in collaboration with NIH Roorkee, IIT Roorkee and ATREE Bengaluru; and, NERC NBSGap — investigating how nature-based solutions are contributing to priority societal challenges surrounding human well-being.
