Operating from four UK locations, CEH employs 360 scientists and has a £40m annual budget. A growing proportion of this budget and staff time is directed overseas and CEH aims to continue this work when it becomes an independent, not-for-profit research institute (Company Limited by Guarantee with Charitable status) later in 2019.
About the role
This role forms part of the local IT Support team of seven staff at CEH Wallingford. We are looking for an experienced IT Support Engineer to join our team, to help support our world class science.
Main duties will include:
- PC Operating System support: Windows 7 and Windows 10
- PC application support: Support of Office 365 applications and desktop Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project etc.)
- support of video conferences and Skype
- advising CEH staff on IT queries
- recording IT issues reported to the IT Service Desk and resolving them or escalating to senior staff where appropriate
- basic networking troubleshooting.
You will be able to demonstrate effective IT support skills in a helpdesk environment and to manage a number of concurrent tasks, prioritising and escalating as required.
It is essential that you are graduate level qualified or have equivalent professional skills and knowledge.
A working knowledge of Windows 7 and 10 with demonstrable support experience is advantageous.
Experience of data encryption e.g. Microsoft BitLocker, management of Sophos anti-virus and excellent troubleshooting/problem solving is also essential.

Excellent communication and time management skills are essential. You must be able to work within a team and independently and have a positive approach to change. You will be approachable and able to advise staff and deal with queries.
