International Development Opportunities Manager - Based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire

Want to help a world-class research institute enable low and middle income countries to address complex environmental and societal challenges?

About the role

CEH is currently undergoing an exciting period of organisational change, in part driven by changing environmental challenges and opportunities, resulting in shifting external funding landscapes. These opportunities include significant potential for CEH to further apply its capabilities to countries eligible to receive Official Development Assistance and addressing the complex environmental issues and societal challenges which affect their development, security and prosperity. We are seeking an individual with a background in the international development sector, who can apply this experience to enable CEH to most effectively identify, develop, and capitalise upon its relevant capabilities, to make a material difference, not least across Sub-Saharan Africa.

About you

Candidates will have demonstrable experience in hydrology, hydrological extremes (floods and droughts), or Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (Sustainable Development Goal 6). This “Water” knowledge will enable the post holder to develop CEH’s wider capabilities in areas such as food security, pollution and biodiversity, for international application given the strong interrelationship of water with those SDG relevant capabilities.

You will use your knowledge of international development to identify how CEH capabilities can be applied, and further developed, to meet the demands of Sustainable Development Goals, and the priorities of international development funding institutions and large charitable foundations. Using this knowledge, you will work with CEH scientists and relevant partner organisations (including those within your existing international and UK network) to develop ambitious and innovative proposals which can be promoted to funders as part of a wider programme of engagement with them. . This activity forms a central component of CEH’s income diversification plan, and commences at an exciting juncture in CEH’s organisational status.

Eligibility

To work for CEH, you must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
