Scottish Freshwater Group: 79th Meeting

The 79th meeting was held on 25th October at the University of Stirling. It was organised by the Centre for River Restoration Science (Stirling University) and the UK River Restoration Centre. The theme of the 79th meeting was River Restoration in Scotland.

Speakers included:

  • Phillip Boon, Scottish Natural Heritage: Introduction
  • Martin James,  RRC : The work of RRC in Scotland
  • Stuart Greig, SEPA: Initiatives for coordinating, implementing and funding future river restoration
  • David Beaumont,  RSPB: River restoration projects; current and future
  • David Gilvear, University of Stirling: Geomorphology, hydrology, ecology and river restoration
  • University of Stirling: Monitoring biological recovery on engineered streams
  • Hamish Moir, MLURI: Restoration initiatives on the River Tarland
  • Chris Gibbins, University of Aberdeen: Models and muddles: assessing salmonid habitat requirements for flow re-naturalisation in regulated rivers
  • Nikolai Friburg, MLURI: Remeandering Scottish streams – lessons to be gained from  the Danish experience

Posters were presented by:

The Scottish Freshwater Group is organised by Dr Laurence Carvalho, Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, and hosted by David Gilvear, of the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Stirling.
