Why a Source to Sea Platform?
It provides the potential to integrate the study of biogeochemistry, biodiversity and hydrology in a linked terrestrial, freshwater and marine study system at a practical, policy relevant scale. There are a range of stakeholder interests in a study site of this scale including:
- identifying drivers of peatland degradation in particular the role of climate change;
- quantifying impacts of land management on river and marine systems including their "ecological status" (WFD) and commercial interests e.g. shell fisheries;
- developing novel land management to help reduce risks of flooding.
