Biodiversity Objective BD-3.2

Test practical measures to ameliorate the effects of anthropogenic drivers on ecosystem processes and services

Biodiversity Objective BD-3.2 contributes to CEH Science Strategy Challenge VI (to identify strategies and control measures to mitigate impacts of environmental change on ecosystems, ecosystem services and human health) by improving our knowledge of how intensive land management, climate change and other anthropogenic drivers affect ecosystem function.

BD-3.2 aims to:

  • Assess the effectiveness of current countryside management policies in ameliorating the effects of environmental change on biodiversity and ecosystem function and services
  • Test restoration and management approaches for biodiversity to assess their effect on the resilience and resistance of ecosystems and the services they provide
  • Develop new land and landscape management practices to enable biodiversity and associated ecosystem services to adapt to ongoing environmental change

These activities are integrated with other research areas in the Biodiversity, Biogeochemistry and Water Programmes and the Environmental Information Data Centre. This will enable a more comprehensive assessment of how we can optimise land management for a sustainable future.
