Extensively revised in 2005, this is an updated version of a study carried out in 1968/69 to assess the influence of the soils in regulating the relationship between rainfall and runoff. An observational study, it was a precursor to field experiments and modelling studies that followed. The findings of the original work remain largely unchanged, but this revised version aims at preventing the loss of the early work and is of benefit to those working in the Plynlimon catchments today.
