CEH ranked highly on environmental papers impact – 23 July 2010

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology has been listed in the top 15 British institutions in the environment and ecology field, ranked according to the impact of science papers in the last ten years.

Data from Thomson Reuters, taken from Thomson Scientific databases, shows that CEH published 625 papers in the area of environment and ecology during the period January 2000 to February 2010, resulting in more than 9,700 citations, or 15.54 citations per paper. This can be used as a measure of a paper's impact.

In the Thomson Reuters table of institutions that published more than 300 papers in the time period concerned, CEH was ranked as number 14 in the UK, and number 98 worldwide.

"We are delighted that the impact of CEH’s integrated science is recognised within this report,” commented CEH's Director, Professor Patricia Nuttall. She continued, “CEH is delivering valuable research across all aspects of terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems, including the atmosphere."

The field of environment and ecology covers areas including plant sciences, soil science, hydrology, air pollution, climate change and biodiversity.
