A new ladybird has arrived in Britain. But not just any ladybird: this is the Harlequin ladybird, Harmonia axyridis, the most invasive ladybird on Earth.
There are 46 species of ladybird (Coccinellidae) resident in Britain and the recent arrival of the Harlequin ladybird has the potential to threaten many of these. The Harlequin Ladybird Survey will monitor the spread of this ladybird across Britain and assess the impact it has on other ladybird species.
The Survey is being launched today (March 15th) at the Natural History Museum in London. CEH's Biological Records Centre will be managing and analysing all the records sent in.
